About the ‘Gold Carpet Experience’

FAQs

  • Our portrait sessions are designed for families and typically accommodate up to eight people. However, if your family exceeds this number, we’d be happy to make an exception—just let us know ahead of time so we can make the necessary arrangements!

  • We understand that pets are part of the family, and we welcome dogs to be part of your portrait session. That said, it’s important to assess whether your pet is well-suited for this environment. Families are responsible for ensuring their pet’s safety, behavior, and care during the session and assume liability for any damages or incidents.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to allergies and comfort of other guests, currently pet sessions are only accepted on Thursdays and Fridays, or by special appointment only (which would need to be confirmed over the phone). If you book a family portrait with a pet on a non-pet day, we will need to reschedule you. If you arrive with an undeclared pet, on a non-pet day, without prior arrangements we will unfortunately have to turn you away and rebook you for another day; in this case your deposit would be forfeited. Please be sure to let us know of your pets in advance.

  • For the best results, we recommend that children be at least eight months old at the time of their portrait session. You’re welcome to book in advance by phone, or wait until the time is right to use our convenient online scheduling system.

  • We collect a refundable $250 booking deposit to reserve your session. This deposit secures two hours of dedicated studio time and ensures our team is ready for your family. The deposit will be fully refunded as long as you:

    1. Arrive on time (within a 10-minute grace period).

    2. Provide at least two weeks' notice if you need to cancel, reschedule, or change your party size.

We understand that unexpected circumstances can arise, and we’re always happy to work with you in special situations.

  • Yes, many clients choose to apply their deposit toward their artwork or any optional services, such as on-site hair and makeup.

  • We kindly ask that families arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled session to ensure everything runs smoothly. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate late arrivals.

  • We recommend wearing formal attire in dark, solid colors like black or jewel tones. Avoid white or patterned clothing, as these can detract from the overall aesthetic. For more guidance, check out our Dress Code page for inspiration and examples!

  • Your session will take approximately two hours at our studio. This includes a 30-minute photo session, time for image processing, an art education segment, and your image selection process.

  • We take great care in producing your artwork, ensuring every detail is perfect. From artistry and retouching to handcrafted production and shipping, you can expect to receive your finished pieces within 2-3 months.

  • We understand that life happens! Sessions can be rescheduled with at least two weeks' notice, allowing us time to rebook your appointment. Rescheduling with less than two weeks’ notice will result in the forfeiture of the booking deposit. Unfortunately, deposits cannot be refunded for permanently canceled sessions.

  • Yes — sometimes! A couple of times a year, we open a small number of spots for what we call Gifted Sessions, photoshoot giveaways, or studio collaborations. These are invitation-based portrait experiences where we waive the session fee and include a studio artwork credit (your gift certificate) to help you begin your piece.

These are not contests or raffles. We offer them to meet new families, explore creative projects, and make fine-art portraiture more accessible to those who’ve been meaning to do it “one day.”

Because each session is fully designed and staffed like any Motif experience, we can only offer a limited number at a time. That means not every applicant will receive a spot — but we do our best to cast a wide net and welcome as many families as possible, rotating invitations so more people have the chance to participate.

Why do I have to put down a deposit if it’s gifted?

Fair question. When we reserve your studio time, we set aside a photographer, set design, and a same-day reveal experience exclusively for your family. The booking deposit simply confirms your commitment and secures that spot.

The best part: it’s not an extra fee. Your deposit is refundable or can be applied in full toward your artwork at your art consultation (unless otherwise stated in a special promotion). In other words, you’re not paying to show up — you’re reserving your experience and investing in the heirloom you came for.

It’s our way of keeping the calendar respected while still making it a true gift.
