About Motif Fine Portraits

Our ‘Why?’

For years, Rose and Mike, husband-and-wife duo owners of Motif Fine Portraits, have immersed themselves in the arts and professional photography, capturing families on location and outdoors. Beyond their professional photography work, they’ve always been the “shutterbugs” of their own families, capturing life’s precious moments at birthdays, weddings, and countless family milestones. But over time, they noticed something missing from these cherished memories—they were rarely in the images themselves. Reflecting on this, they realized that this role of capturing memories was generational; it was once held by their mothers, who also appeared less frequently in family photos. They saw this as a repeating story, a motif, across families and generations, an unintentional exclusion of the storytellers from the story.

This insight grew even stronger after the loss of beloved family members who had been rarely photographed, a realization that left an indelible mark. Rose and Mike felt a profound commitment to ensuring no family would experience this absence again. They understood just how essential it is to capture every member’s presence—because no one can go back in time to tell the stories left untold.

The depth of their mission was further solidified during a visit to Schönbrunn Palace in Austria, where Rose and Mike were captivated by walls adorned with centuries-old portraits. These Renaissance-inspired works seemed alive, inviting a connection with each person captured within the frame. The artwork was more than decoration; it was a living history, preserving the essence of families across generations. Inspired by this experience, Rose and Mike decided to shift from their field photography, and committed to building a studio that captures both the beauty and timelessness of these portraits.

At Motif Fine Portraits, we believe that family portraits are a rich tapestry of humanity and history—a way of preserving not just faces but stories. Guided by our professional experience and a vision to blend Renaissance artistry with a refined modern aesthetic, we are passionate about creating heirloom pieces that harmonize with today’s spaces yet hold a depth that will last for generations. For us, there is no greater honor than helping families tell their stories, preserving every loved one in a work of art that speaks to the heart of who they are.

Making memories into masterpieces.
